Women in Focus: Keynote event and sessions announced!

WFF's Women in Focus series returns to WFF's Content Summit this December to continue the conversation on gender parity, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the screen industry. Online sessions include:

WOMEN IN FOCUS FIRESIDE CHAT

Featuring special guests, Vernā Myers, VP, Inclusion Strategy, Netflix and Prem Gill, CEO, Creative BC, this fireside chat takes a candid look at the diversity and inclusion work being done at Netflix and around the world, emphasizing actions that make a positive difference.

FINANCES & ENTREPRENEURSHIP | GROWING YOUR BUSINESS ACUMEN

Take a deep dive into finances, entrepreneurship, and overcoming barriers to access bigger project budgets with Jennifer Holness, President, Hungry Eyes Film and Television and Joan Jenkinson, Executive Director, Black Screen Office.

STORY REFRAME | WRITING WITH A PRO-SURVIVOR LENS

Along with the fight for better representation, storytellers must consider how victims of crime and criminal behaviour are portrayed and what that communicates to viewers. This is essential in the struggle for equity on screen and behind the lens. The WIF series is accessible worldwide for Online Industry Passholders. Women in Focus: Talent Program participants announced

The WFF Women in Focus Mentorship provides five women or non-binary filmmakers from British Columbia the opportunity to be paired with an executive industry mentor to help prepare and guide their market experience and progress their careers and projects. The filmmakers selected for the mentorship are:

Kayala Lea (Mona Ling Leung) (BC) - BEYOND VANITY Michelle Muldoon (BC) - BIRTHDAY BLUES Pauline Egan (BC) - THE HUMANITARIAN Mayumi Yoshida (BC) - AURORA Melanie Jones (BC) - SWITCHBACK This year’s mentors include Jennifer Shin, Director of Development, Comedy CBC Scripted Content, English Services; and Emily Alden, Vice President, Development, Brightlight Pictures. The Whistler Film Festival gratefully acknowledges support for the Women in Focus Mentorship from Creative BC and the Independent Production Fund.
